700 hundred years ago a widow from Palakkad came home with a lingam' from Kashi, She entrusted it along with 1320 gold coins to the king of Palakkad who buit a temple around it. The temple, a replica of the Kashi temple at Banaras dating back to 1425 AD, has an imposing kodimaram or tlagpole. t is from this 1lagpole that the temple banner fies during the Kalpathy Ratholsavam, a chariot festival held in November in which all the temples in the area participate.It is an elaborate 10 day affair.
