In the Wayanad district of Kerala, Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary is a popular place for ecotourism. The Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and its proximity to Nagarhole National Park in Karnataka make it a critical corridor for elephants and tigers. Safari Timings & Slots Daily, the sanctuary operates during two specific time slots. It's best to arrive at the ticket counter at least 30 minutes early because the number of vehicles allowed per day is limited. Mornings are from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM and evenings are from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Arriving before 6 am for booking. As we travel towards this location, there are animals that can be observed on the roadside. Even though on-the-spot tickets are common, it's possible to check the Kerala Forest Ecotourism portal for online booking availability. Jeep Safari The primary way to explore. The length of a typical safari is about 1 to 1.5 hours, approximately 9 to 12 kilometers on one side, and it follows a designated forest trail. There are certain trails that lead to watchtowers near waterholes, which are excellent spots to spot herds of elephants or bison. Disclaimer Seeing or not seeing animals can happen during the safari. It's all dependent on our luck.

Getting the opportunity to travel deep inside the Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary in a forest department vehicle was an unforgettable experience. As the vehicle moved through the dense forest, the calm and raw beauty of nature filled the mind. The forest staffs guidance reflected their deep responsibility and respect for the wilderness. Seeing wildlife in their natural habitat from close quarters felt truly special. The forests sounds and untouched surroundings made the journey deeply refreshing. The safari has a minimum charge of 2100 for four persons, which is well worth it. Visitors must reach the spot before 5:00 AM to secure entry. Only 42 vehicles are allowed into the inner forest per day. On holidays, slots get filled very quickly. So, it is highly recommended to arrive early in the morning for this amazing experience.

The safari last 1.5 hours, costs rs2250 per jeep, so its affordable. its one single road to enter and exit from the other side, its not like Kabini or Nagarhole which branches out like a combing search safari. Its hard to spot animals coz of the thick forest. We spotted Elephants, Sambar deer, tortoises, giant squirrel

Our experience at the Tholpetty wildlife safari was extremely disappointing and stressful. To begin with, the road condition inside the forest was very, very bad, making the journey uncomfortable from the start. What made it worse was the drivers rash and extremely fast driving. Even after repeatedly requesting him to slow down, he completely ignored our concerns and continued driving at high speed on the rough road. Because of this reckless driving, it was not possible to properly enjoy or even observe the surroundings. The entire safari felt rushed and unsafe. In terms of wildlife sightings, it was very poor we were shown only tiger paw marks, a few deer, and one peacock. That was all. For the amount paid, this felt like a complete waste of money. Due to the rough roads combined with the drivers careless driving, my health was badly affected, and the safari became physically exhausting instead of enjoyable. A wildlife safari should be a calm and slow experience, but unfortunately, this was the opposite. The biggest issue was the drivers rash driving, which ruined the entire experience and made it unsafe and uncomfortable. Overall, I would not recommend Tholpetty safari, especially for families, elderly people, or anyone with health issues.

There is a limit of number of vehicles that enter the forest 21 per slot. Due to a tiger hunt happening in the nagarhola sector some parts are restricted. Advice is to enquire beforehand. Early 6AM is the best slot
